Church Calendar Software: Not Google Calendar, Not a ChMS

Church Calendar Software: The Simple Option Between Google Calendar and a Full Church Management System

A church calendar does three things: it tells the congregation what is happening, it tells volunteers who is serving where, and it shows up on the church website without anyone retyping it. Until now, a small church had two choices: a free Google Calendar that does the first job and none of the others, or a full church management system (ChMS) that does everything, including giving, check-in and a member database. Joynit is church calendar software for small churches and congregations: one shared calendar for events and volunteers, embeddable on your website, free for small teams and one flat price for the whole church after that.

What is church calendar software?

Church calendar software is a shared online calendar built for a congregation. Each event, a Sunday service, a Bible study, a youth group night, a food pantry shift, a funeral, carries its time, its location, its volunteers and its details. The calendar is visible to the congregation on the website and on their phones, and editable by the staff and ministry leaders who need to change it.

It applies to any congregation that coordinates people and events: churches, parishes, chapels, campus ministries, youth groups, choirs, and the nonprofits and community groups that grow around them.

Church calendar software is not a church management system: it coordinates events and volunteers, it does not track giving, attendance or membership records.

Why Google Calendar is not enough

Most small churches start with Google Calendar, a printed bulletin, and a Facebook group. It's free and familiar. Then the limits appear:

  • Every volunteer needs a Google account to do more than look.
  • There is no sign-up: "who is serving coffee on Sunday" lives in a text thread.
  • Nothing tells you a room or the sound system is already booked.
  • Embedding it on the website gives you a generic grid that looks like someone's personal calendar.
  • Photos, documents and announcements live somewhere else, usually in email.

Why a full church management system is often too much

Church management systems such as Planning Center and Breeze ChMS cover the whole life of a church: member database, online giving, check-in for kids, groups, worship planning, registrations and a calendar module. For a church of 300 with staff, that is the right tool.

For a church of 60 run by a pastor and a handful of volunteers, it comes with a cost in money and in setup. Breeze lists at around $72 per month. Planning Center is free for a very small team (5 scheduled volunteers, 1 calendar room), then priced per module, with a typical small-church spend around $60 per month. Each module needs an administrator who understands it, and the calendar is one tab among ten.

The result is familiar: the church buys the platform, uses the calendar and the volunteer schedule, ignores the rest, and wonders why it is paying for a database it never opens.

Joynit: a church calendar that coordinates volunteers and lives on your website

Joynit started as a shared calendar for communities, not as a church database. The calendar is the product. Around it, Joynit adds what a congregation needs to run its week:

  • Events the congregation can actually read. Services, studies, youth nights, outreach, each with its time, place, description, photos and documents.
  • Volunteer scheduling. Assign people to an event (greeters, musicians, nursery, coffee) on a grid by person or by ministry. Joynit warns you when someone is already serving elsewhere or marked unavailable.
  • Sign-ups and attendance polls. Let members sign up for a potluck or a service slot from a link, pick a time slot, or vote on a date for the next meeting.
  • Rooms and equipment as resources. The fellowship hall, the van, the sound system each get a row, so double bookings stop.
  • Website embed. Paste one snippet and the live calendar appears on your church website, styled to match. No retyping, no PDF bulletin to update.
  • Sharing without an account. Members and visitors view the calendar and events from a link. Only the people who edit need a login.
  • A chat per event. The conversation about Saturday's outreach stays on Saturday's outreach.
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android, reminders, and sync with Google Calendar, Outlook and iCal.

What Joynit does not do

Joynit does not handle online giving, child check-in, membership records or worship planning with chord charts. Those belong to a church management system. If your first need is a member database or giving, Planning Center or Breeze is the right choice.

Joynit pricing for churches and congregations

Joynit charges per organization, not per member. Visitors and attendees are unlimited on every plan, and the website embed is included from the free plan up. Prices per month, cancel anytime, 15-day free trial on paid plans (see official pricing).

A church with 20 active volunteers and an unlimited congregation of viewers runs on the Plus plan at $19 per month, less than a third of a typical ChMS bill.

Which churches is Joynit built for?

Joynit fits small and mid-sized congregations, roughly 30 to 300 attendees, with a pastor and volunteer leaders rather than a full staff: church plants, parishes, campus ministries, youth ministries, choirs, and the community groups around them. It fits churches whose website calendar is out of date because updating it is nobody's job, and whose volunteer schedule lives in a text thread.
